strange pppoe problem

I've the Problem,too!! 
I use the Astaro Version 4.
I think it's a Problem with the IP- Adress change from the
ISP! I can't toggle the Interface because i've Masq. activated... Hope to find e Fix or something.
I hope here's a little support from Astaro??!!  

mmmh. i just replaced every piece of hardware (dsl modem, splitter, nics, cables) and got still the problem :-(


 

the problem seems not to be related to hardware. We are currently evaluating
what the problem may cause - stay tuned.

I'm inclined to agree it is something with the way the ISP renews the connection and how ASL's PPPoE deals with it.  I had one ISP with the same problem (I think they were using an NT Radius system that had issues).  DSL in the next town was fine.

In the town that works it works great.  The IPSEC tunnels rebuild and ez-ipupdate works.  The one that doesn't is a pain when IP renews, finally went to static IP and cost for that one.  Otherwise similar set-ups.

    

tonight i messed around with dhcp or fixed ips on pppoe-interface. doesn't matter... system hangs anyway.

 

i just upgraded to .008 and we will see ;-)

Maybe the problem is the MTU size. 
Try it when you set the MTU size in the advanced interface options to 1492 or maybe smaller.

I had a similar problem with a Sonicwall...

The standard of MTU is 1500 and can't be higher. But the PPPoE add 8 Byte and that’s because it can make Problems.

The MTU size can cause problems.  It would be good to check with your ISP to see what they use for an MTU size.  The default size is 1460 but some ISP's go as low or lower then 1392.  Good Luck.

ok, i asked my provider: mtu of 1492 is fine. but by default mtu is set to this (checked with ifconfig).

I've study the log Files and this was my Answer! Astaro will wait 900 Seconds for reconnect to the ISP after an IP- change or Sync- fail.- I never wait 15 Min. before.. 

no, this is not the problem. most users using dsl connections did some tuning of these settings.

asher, in case you need help: let me know. you also shoud owner and permissions like the "old" pppoe binary.
  

ok....so i downloaded one of the windows explorer type ssh programs suggested in a previous post....but the the username was loginuser and i couldnt figure out how to then do an su to switch to root

so i uploaded the file to /tmp and then used putty....then did su and went to root and moved the new pppoe file into the correct directory

fine

then i switched the current pppoe file to be called pppoeold and the new pppoe

I could not get on the web....it would not connect 

then i switched the files back and i was in business again

please be aware, however that i have made two other modification to asl....first i added the asyncmap line and also i shortened the redial times to 10....other than this...no changes have been made

I really want to update to V4 but i am stuck at 3 until this is fixed....

can anyone help me!!!!

also as per the post above....what exactly does that mean that i have to set the permissions the same as the old binary...maybe thats the problem....and if so how would i do that
