[8.950][ANSWERED] Kernel PAE

I have see that kernel seam build with pae support but my pc see only 3Gb instead of 4Gb.
It's not x64 compliant so I can't use kernel x64.

Do you mind to give as just a little bit more information about your system? My magic crystal ball isn't working that well today... ;-)

My system are an old quad socket Xeon with 4Gb ram; I have tried to install other linux distribution with pae enable and see all 4gb instead installing Astaro it see only 3,2Gb.
Seeing kernel config seam that pae are enabled but I think there are other kernel parameter that prevent memory reallocation.

different kernels do it differently...pae uses pages of ram to swap out to make it look like it can go around the 32 bit limit..remember emm386.exe days? Stick with 3 gigs so you aren't setting yourself up for possible memory access errors, performance problems..etc etc. The astaro kernel is a hardned feature limited kernel...so depending on your motherboard, peripherals(including ALL internal interconnects)..etc etc PAE may not actually help you. Your best bet is to get the machine to 3 gigs or get 64 bit compliant hardware.

To complete what William has already said: the "rest" ist probably used by the linux kernel itself and not "completely gone".
If you want us to take a closer look, you should provide the output of dmesg, /proc/meminfo and /proc/cpuinfo.

I have also tried on other hardware that can only use 32bit software version and the output are the same.
I have attached to output of dmesg cpuinof and meminfo.

I'm confused: the output says it's an Intel Atom processor. That's weird...

your cpu is 64 bit compliant. the nm10 chipset is also 64 bit compliant. unless there's a bios limitation my advise is to make a config backup and reinstall with 64 bit.

You're right, cpu and chipset are x64 compliant but seam Intel has not yet certificate x64 compliant so mb manufacter are locked EMT64 option in disable state.
I'm trying to reverse engineering bios to enable this feature but it's not so simple.

So its a bios issue.....either get the bios flashed or reduce to 3 gigs or get new hardware
