[8.060][NOTABUG][CLOSED] Spontaneous restarts

Oh noooo not kernel panics again. I haven't had any problems since the initial 8.050 release and 8.055 being rock solid. I have been away from home and haven't really dug into this beta. Glad you are doing some testing.

On a side note, how is your http proxy holding up. You still noticing the segfaults in http proxy?

so kind of you to ask.

The current beta build is a complete fresh from ground up configuration. The only thing really common is licence and user ids and of course PC names.

I am trying to track what appear to be restarts, but nothing appears in the logs other than one yesterday. I am seeing IP address changes on the PPPoE connection, but nothing in the logs.
This sounds strangely like something the V8.000b.

The http/s proxy is currently configured in transparent mode, sometimes the performance is better than the v8.00b and other times a lot slower. The Astaro cfff is still performing about the same, around 60ms. The users don't complain too much unless they have an open access to compare the performance to.

I don't know if this can help but I experinced several spontaneous restarts under versions 8.000 to 8.002 since we bought our ASG appliances months ago. There was never anything related in the Logs. I already did a fresh reinstall of version 8.002 from the ISO and reworked the whole config. 

Our support partner and Astaro Support couldn't find anything in the logs, too. So they already exchanged one of our two ASG220. Until today the problem wasn't really solved.

Hi folks,
i was able to crash the ASG without log entries by trying to open a streaming music session that didn't connect correctly. This stream did work a couple of days ago.

The ASG was restarting about once a day, but today it was twice in  a short time frame.

I have changed the BIOS memory to defaults instead of the native memory speed to see if that makes a difference.

A new motherboard might be required.

Hi all,

in order to track your issues down I need as much information as possible. How did you encounter the spontaneous restarts (e. g. ping check, console)?  If there is something shown on the console please either provide a screenshot (e. g. photo) or install a serial console.  The latter usually catches all the messages printed in case of a kernel bug.

You can install a serial console by ESCaping into the GRUB menu during boot, then editing the kernel command line by appending 'console=ttyS0,38400' and using a serial cable to log to another box.  Then use a program like minicom (Linux) or newer putty (Windows) on the other box for logging.

Hi,
I found the cause of the reboots. I was forcing the memory to work above it specs without realising it.
I pulled the box apart to clean it and found the it was only out fitted with 667 memory where as I thought I had installed 800 memory.

Racking the brain about why I changed the memory I recall under the previous beta I had 800 memory installed an found the bios didn't like it so I downgraded it to 667.

The kernel report was a once off, it never repeated.
