[6.819] Hardware-Problems, VIA VT6102(Rhine)

Today i've tested a new Via Epia CN10000 with fanless C7 processor. Everythink worked fine, even a SATA-disk was no problem.

But the onboard-ethernet-adapter didn't work correct. A fresh installation with this interface as the internal interface didn't not work (interface is not reachable), using it as a second interface worked, but was unstable. ICMP-pings needed about 500-2000ms, so this network-adapter ist not usable.

I tried different cables, different switches, connected my test-workstation directly via cross-connect and tried it with switched-off autonegotiation - but it didn't help. So i installed WinXP - and everything worked fine!

I think ASG has a driver-problem with VT6102-lan-chipset (or VT8235 chipset). I hope Astaro will fix/update those linux-drivers.

Please provide the boot messages (output of 'dmesg') and /proc/interrupts. Also, check the usual suspects, namely ACPI (acpi=off boot) and APIC (lapic=off boot). What does tcpdump show?

Hi Holger,

first of all: i've updated to 6.836. For a better understanding, here is my config-overview:

eth0 [Via Rhine, build-in]: 192.168.0.1
eth1 [Compaq NC3134 dual-port]: 172.16.0.1
eth2 [Compaq NC3134 dual-port]: DSL-pppoe

After normal booting, eth1 & eth2 (NC3134) work fine, eth0 (Rhine) is real slow, ping-replies take between 500 and 2000ms, the interface is not usable. Tcpdump shows nothing that seems to be wrong (in my opinion):

After booting with "acpi=off" and "lapic=off", it's the other way round [:S] eth0 (Rhine) is working fine and eth1 (NC3134) is absolutely slow...

What am i doing wrong? Should i try it with another network-adapter instead of using NC3134?

Were the VIA C7 and VT6102 combination supported in v5/v6? If so, what modules were loaded?

what is that interface tied to? i would not reccomend shutting off auto-negotiation. I tried that on my NIC -> cable modem and the performance was terrible! when I say terrible, I mean it was actually worse than a dial up modem. try turning auto-negotiate back on and tell us what it is hooked to. switch? modem? other?

Hi,
it doesn't matter how the interface is connected. I tried different switches, different cables, cross-connect-cable, different settings (autonegotiation on/off) - but that did not help. As i said above, the same system with WinXP works, i guess it has something to do with apci/interrupts or something like that.

i will test V5/V6 this weekend. Which command do i have to use to check which module is loaded?

Hi there,

i've just tested V6.3 with my Epia CN10000 => the same problems!

Yesterday i've tried a Intel Pro 1000 MT dualport adapter, but I had the same problems as with my old NC3134.

I still think that ASG is doing something wrong with the IRQs, because with Windows XP running every adapter is working really fine (i did some load tests).

Forgot to say that i've tested with 6.915...
