Importing config take a too much long time

Hello,

I'm new in Sophos.

I need to install back a previously removed (2 years ago) XG106.
The active FW (#2) was v17.5.13 MR13

The other FW (#1) was v15.5.12 MR12.
I've upgraded this one (FW #1) in v18.0.6 MR6 without problem, and was able to boot on it.
The config was migrated.
Everything was OK.

Then I tried to upgrade the #2 from v17.5.13 to 18.5.5 MR5.
Also OK, and been able to boot on it with the correct config.

Then I've upgraded the #1 to v19.0.1 MR1.
There was a reset to factory settings.

After booting to this v19.0.1, I can't restore a config backup (file without extension) .
And also, I can't import config from a full exported config from FW#2 v18.5.5 MR5.
It took a very long time (more than 20-30 minutes) and after timeout of admin session, factory settings are still there.

I also tried to rollback FW #1 from v19.0.1 to v18.5.3 but also I can't import config (same effect, very long time, and after timeout of the admin session)

What can I do ?
Do I need to configure again manually everything (WAN, LAN, routing, users, ...) ?
Or is there hope to restore full config from a backup or exported file ?

  • Hi,

it's the main problem I have, there is no specific message displayed (or maybe I missed it if it's a temporary popup message during some seconds only).

While restoring a backup, it seems something is done, because if I remain on the same page and I click again on Import button, there is a temporary popup message at the top of the screen which say something like "unable to import, there's a similar pending operation at this time".

And if I wait too much, while clicking on Import, nothing appear, and I know that the session was timed out !
If I refresh the page, I then go back to login page.

  • Are we talking about import/export or backup/restore? Those are different tasks.

  • I tried first to restore a backup (file with no extension) but it seems that it's not possible de restore in a v18.5.3 FW a backup created from a v18.5.5 FW.

So now I try to import (in v18.5.3) a config from an exported v18.5.5 file (with .TAR file format).
And it's this step that took a very very long time, in fact without success !

  • Hi,

last week, I've tried again, and with no more success, I've decided to factory reset the firewall and start from blank a new configuration.

    I haven't tried to backup/restore (ou export/import) the configuration.

I will let trained people on Sophos technology to analyze the situation and try these steps.

Thanks for your tips and help
