Heads-Up: SFOS 18.5.2 MR-2-Build380 losing PPPoE-Passwords

Just a quick heads-up: I did the newest MR-2-Update on a few Customers-XG devices and all of them lost their PPPoE Passwords. All I needed todo was re-enter the correct password and everything was fine again.

Keep in mind: Your ISP might lock your Account if you had too many failed logins, so you might need to call them first.

Intresting Side-Note tho: On a few XGs with multiple Uplinks (all PPPoE-based) the first WAN-Interface didn't lose its password (which saved me).
Hopefully this will help someone / get fixed soon.

  • Hello there,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community.

Have you opened any case related to this?

Would it be possible for you to open a case and provide the following logs

    syslog.log, applog.log, netword.log

Not sure if you’re planning to upgrade any other of your customers that has more than 2 PPPoE links, but if you do please provide the logs mentioned above so this can be investigated.

    Regards,

  • Hi, emmosophos.

I think the problem is that in v18.5.2, the PPPoE password in DB are encrypted. In v18.5.1 and earlier versions, the password is storaged in clear text. Maybe, when converting the passwords, the script only convert the first record in DB. All the subsequents records are replaced with the password of the first record.

    I'll send you a PM.
