  • Hi,

do you mean Telstra? You are using consumer NBN for a business? At this stage NBN Co have not rolled out much business NBN.

I would suspect there is something wrong with your connection, mine is very stable and I suspect I have a static IP4 and IPv6 addresses assigned.

    What is your connection type?

    What is your IP4 address mask, /24, /22, /17?

  • Yes Telstra NBN Business, I am in Australia mate, where you from, here NBN has rolled out Business connection long back.

Yes this is what i am suspecting that some thing wrong with the connection from telstra

Can we control this setting through Sophos where we can lock IP4 and IPv6 address for port 1 or 3 with firewall settings so if in case NBN dhcp gets change but sophos dont change its assigned IP

    Mask  is 192.168.x.z

  • so mask is like 255.255...

I have checked IP from telestra and it keeps changing but can we lock assigned IP to VPN through Sophos ?

  • Hi Deep,

the company I used to work for was waiting on NBN business at a number sites and the answer was not yet.

What technology are you using FTTN, FTTC, FTTP or something else?

Does your NCD reset on a regular basis. Is the power supply to your NCD failing and causing a new IP, address to be assigned after every restart?

    Ian

  • Assuming the largest issue you have with this is VPN clients, you could use DNS names in the VPN config in conjunction with some dynamic DNS magic as a workaround. This doesn't solve the issue of the constantly changing IP, but might make it less painful.

  • Technology we uses is FTTN and yes NCD getting reset on regular basis

  • I would recommend you put a UPS on your NCD or is it resetting because it is faulty?

  • Is this a Telstra Business Broadband service? If so it's provisioned with a Static IP (static IP assigned via DHCP request).

Also, which modem do you have? The Gateway Pro (rebadged Netgear 7610 - black box, reclining back a bit) or the Smart Modem (light grey box)?

The Smart Modem can be put in bridge mode, which allows your XG Firewall to perform the DHCP request and get the Static IP. You'll lose 4G backup capability and voice ports of the Smart Modem though.

The Gateway Pro cannot be put into bridge mode so the best thing to do is toss it in the bin and get a decent VDSL modem (like a Draytek Vigor v130) and put it in bridge mode. (The Gateway Pro, like the Netgear DEVG2020 that Telstra used for DOT services, completely sucks due to crappy firmware and just makes your life a misery).
