V17 MR5 - Maybe It's Me

Hello All,

I've been a fan of the Astaro gateway product for a long time. And while I'm not here to bash any product as they all have issues. I have to say this XG migration has been a truly bad experience for me personally. 1st i stayed on version 15 as it was the only version that provided a stable VPN S2S connection.

So I decided to upgrade to version 17 in my lab first and while I experienced several issues the update to MR3 resolved alot of them.

With that being said since upgrading to version 17 MR5 my device automatically reboots. FOR NO REASON. install hotfixes automatically is NOT enabled.

Any idea what could possibly be causing my device to reboot on its own? prior to upgrading I could run my firewall for months without rebooting the device.

The reboots occur at random throughout the day and the logs show no spike in CPU and/or memory.

Thanks,

  • Hey

I'm sorry to hear about the negative experience that you have had during your migration. I'd like to help you as much as I can.
As  mentioned, could you please confirm your deployment method? Are you utilizing your own hardware? Software VM? XG hardware appliance?

  • Thanks for your reply and my apologies for the delayed response.

I am utilizing my own hardware. the same hardware I've been running for years without any issues. To date. since this post I've soon this firewall reboot itself and/or freeze 5 times. 3 times it rebooted on its own. the last 2 times it appears to have froze causing a lost in all connectivity.

Anything you need me to enable, disable, test I am all for it as I am trying to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

From searching the site it appears I am not the only individual experiencing this issue.

    Again, thanks for all responses.

  •  Hey

Are you able to observe any possible relevant log entries before or around the time of your experienced reboots or freezes?
Could you also attempt reverting back to your previous firmware and confirming if the issue continues to occur?

As well, please perform the following tests for further verification.
    Memory Diagnostics
    Hard Drive Test

    Thanks,

  • So far the only thing I'm seeing of relevancy prior to every time the box rebooting and/or freezing is the following.

    2018-02-05 09:56:09SYSTEMmessageid="18051" log_type="Event" log_component="IPSec" log_subtype="System" status="Failed" user="" con_name="" con_type="0" src_ip="" gw_ip="" local_network="" dst_ip="" remote_network="" additional_information="" message="parsing IKE header from x.x.x.x[17852] failed"
