Updating Sophos Remotely (Sophos Enterprise Console 5.2.1.R2)

Hi.

I have just installed Sophos Enterprise Console 5.2.1.R2 in a new domain. I can deploy Sophos to our workstations and they update from our server. What I can't get to function is if a machine is taken outside our domain, I want it to update from Sophos directly, but I want to set this in the Enterprise Console.

I have set the Default Updating policy to use a Secondary Server with Sophos selected from the dropdown. I have entered our username and password but taking a machine outside of the domain doesn't update. The secondary server is completed (buy greyed out) on the end user machine but is not contacting Sophos for the update.

Hopefully someone can advise?

  • Hello sobeitjedi,

I have entered our username and password

your license credentials? And did you type or copy/paste them - if the latter try typing them.

[the] machine [...] is not contacting Sophos for the update

How did you find out? Please note that the minimum interval is 1 hour when updating from Sophos. Could you perhaps post the updating log?

  • Usually it is:

    • Wrong username or password (typo, whitespace, copy and paste problem)
    • Wrong username or password (another username should be used - check your license schedule)
    • Proxy set on secondary server so on the test bench it works fine, but off the LAN it fails.

I recommend taking the managed endpoint computer off the LAN, opening up the local settings of AutoUpdate that will be grayed out by default...

    ...and checking the proxy/username/password.

If you need a test set of temporary credentials to experiment with you can try those below (good until about 17th April 2014).  Otherwise (and for long term protection) check your license schedule for details of all the credentials issued to you and the validity.  Email customercare@sophos.com if you need to request a copy of the schedule.

  • It's working nowe - thanks for your help. Username & password were correct, I just don't think I left enough time for it to update offline.
