sophos endpoint updating failed

I have a few clients on the non domain segment (DMZ) on my network that are not able to update since I upgrade to a new sophos EC server.

the DMZ clients always shows a updating failed error message.

I have tried reprotecting them from the new server.

  • Hello yeowkm,

alc.log shows Windows error 53 which usually  signifies that the NetBIOS name (GVPTSOPHOS) could not be resolved. Reprotect has likely failed as well. A DMZ is normally walled off which makes NetBIOS name resolution unavailable - guess it worked before because of a specific configuration which has to be adjusted for the new server.

  • Hello yeowkm,.

something must have been done that it worked with the old server - the same something should be done for the new one. The nature of this something depends on your network. It might be more than just name resolution - try to browse to the CID using the server's IP (\\nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn\SophosUpdate\CIDs\) or FQDN (\\server.acme.com\SophosUpdate\CIDs\) instead of the name. If neither works then likely the firewall is also blocking the connection.
