Download of Sophos Management Communications System Endpoint failed from server

Hi,

I keep getting this error all the time with 0x0000006b as error code, I can't find any info that helped me in this forum.

I've tried everything I could possibly think of:

-Disable firewalls

-opened firewall ports 8192-8194)

-share and ntfs permissions (NOTE, in the log it says http://dc.contoso.com but I've tried \\dc\sophosupdate aswell)

-deleted the cache folders

-reinstalled everything

It seemes like I'm missing the Sophos Management Communications System Endpoint files but i have rms folder in my shares and can install it from my share (I think thats the one anyway)

On my server it does not complain at all, only on my workstation. The server is Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise and my workstatin is Windows 7 Pro SP1 64bit

Please help...

  • Hello teoteo,

from the component's name Sophos Management Communications System Endpoint I assume you are talking about UTM here. While the components are similar there might be differences to Endpoint (where the respective component is called Remote Management System) so I think you should better turn to the Sophos UTM Bulletin Board Sophos UTM Bulletin Board.

Anyway, deducing from the Endpoint product - a few of the preceding lines of the log would be required in order to be able to figure out why the download might have failed.

  • Hello Christian,

Thank you for your answer, it explaines why it's working now. Om my computer I had the UTM version installed before I started to test the full version so the autoupdate was trying to update a nonexisten product :)

I deleted it form the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sophos\AutoUpdate\Products and the problem was solved (didn't know why it was there untill your reply)

    Thaks a lot!!

  • Hello Ted,

only curious - you installed Endpoint "over" the existing UTM or did you uninstall UTM first? Just wondering whether it was left behind by the uninstall. OTOH - if you install "over" I think that either an existing UTM should be correctly handled or detected as an "unremovable competitor product" :smileywink:.

Thanks for reporting the reason and the outcome

    Christian

P.S.: Just noticed that a UTM "stub" board has appeared

  • Hi Christian,

I installed UTM version first and after that I installed the full version....the existing UTM did upgrade to a full version but it didn't remove the faulty registry keys.

Note that I did a full uninstall (manually deleted all the files that was left aswell except for the registry keys) and reinstall but the problem was still there so the registry keys are not beeing removed, It should be easy to reproduce.
