Best Practice: installing client on Update Manager host?

May sound like a weird question :smileyfrustrated:, but i have seen servers that have the Enterprise Console installed, but not the client ..

To quench my doubts, please tell me this is needed, or not? Any specific exceptions to load for that machine too?

  • Hello IK,

normally you install Endpoint on the server after installation of the console. Wouldn't run without AV and wouldn't recommend running a competitor product (especially if there's an SUM on the server - I assume we are not talking about just Remote Consoles but a full management server).

  • Endpoint, SUM, Update Mgr, the whole lot is installed .. but from within the console, the server name doesn't show that i's compliant with the policy (it doesn't say anything, and that is when i statr to think, how to verify if the host itself is protected?)

PS was not thinking about any competitor product, solely running "Protect Computers" on the host itself.

  • Hello IK,

after installing SEC the server itself appears as first endpoint in the Unassigned group. After creating a group with appropriate policies you move it there and then use Protect computers.
