sophos anti virus questions

Hi,

I have a few questions about the sophos anti virus software. I have questions about the software such as component filepaths and settings. I have sophos anti virus software installed on my computer. I have a laptop running windows 7. It's a 64 bit os. I paid for it at a retail store. I do not have any free sophos products. I am not a company. I am a home user. I have some tech knowledge. Someone mentioned that this is the right place to post / ask about this type of stuff.

So I would like to ask if this is the right place for me to post?

For example two things I would like to ask are.

What is the file path for the on access scanning logs? So I am able to get more detailed info. from scans.

I would also like to config a custom scan for certain file types but I do not see a option for this, am I missing something or If I am correct is there a workaround for this?

Thanks,

shaunm

  • Hi Shaunm,

Since you're a home user , I suppose you're using Sophos Endpoint Stand Alone version.

Scanning Logs ( Antivirus and Hips Logs ) can be view from  here (View antii-virus and HIPS Log )

and you can see and configure the location of the log files from here :

then for modifying and custom scan for any type of file you can open menu Configure> Anti-Virus > On access scanning > Extension Tab, and add or delete file type that you like to include or exclude from scanning.

And yes you can post questions to this forum, or you could also email your questions to support@sophos.com .

    cheers,

    Antonius A.

  • Hi,

I understand all the info. in your ( sandy sophos moderator ) post to me. But there is two things that I would like to ask based on your post to me.( I am requesting this info. from sandy sophos moderator, but I would like to say that if anyone has more info. or would like to add something please feel free to reply / post to this as well. Thank You.)

I would like to ask sandy the following

1  If I suspect a suspicious file on my computer, OR If there is a file in the sophos (virus) volt that I am unshore about can I email the file directly to sophos or should I email the file to my administrator or is this a question I should ask my administrator?  Also I thought I saw that a Mac user ( free sophos product) can email sophos a ( suspicious, virus) file directly. But I do not have any free sophos products, and I am not a Mac user. I am running windows 7, It is a 64 bit os. So I am not shore If that applies to me? If I am allowed to email a suspicious file, virus directly to sophos could you post the email address?

2 I believe that I understand all the rules for the sophos forums but to be shore would it be possible for you to post a link to these rules?

Thank you for your original post sandy.

For reference sandys (sophos moderator) original post to me is below.

Can I please reiterate, that anyone who is using Sophos at home, will have it installed on their computer courtesy of their employer (we only sell Sophos to business users, not to home users).

Under the conditions of the license for installing on employees home computers, all support requests and questions must be submitted to the relevant administrator in your (employer's) company. Sophos support are unable to accept support requests from employees using Sophos on their home computers.

You are of course welcome to  engage with this forum, but if you have problems with Sophos, you must refer it back to your employer.

    Thank You.

  • Hi Shaunm,

As long as I know, Sophos we're not selling on retail base, they were only sold to corporate account with minimum of 5 (five) licenses. And for a home user (from the Sophos program called "free for home use") were suppose to be supported by the IT administrator from his/her company and I guess this include that the company should publish a web CID for updating Sophos Endpoint Client used by their staff at home.

But for getting a new virus sample I believe the SophosLab will be happy to get it from you :smileyhappy: , and you can submit the sample from here  .

    regards,

    Antonius A.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the info. about the Sophos Mac version free for home use. I was not aware of that, makes sense though. I am also wondering if there is a specific e mail address to send virus samples to instead of the online form? Also I am not shore how to give kudos? I want to make shore I do it right. If possible could you tell me how to give kudos step by step?

Thanks for all the info. Antonius!!

    Thanks,

  • Hello Sandy,

Thanks for the post. There is something I am a bit confused about though, On the sophos online form to submit viruses you mentioned that anyone can use it, But on the first step to fill out the online form it asks for a company name with a red star next to it witch I assume that means its required info? If someone is not a company or that does not apply what should be typed in that space? It also asks for a phone number would it be possible to leave that blank?

Also After I submit a virus sample do you happen to know if I can get feedback on it? For example If I had a question is there a specific e mail address for this?

Thank you for all the posts sandy!!

    Thank You,

    shaunm

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the info.

    Also

There is one other thing I am wondering. If I needed to post a screen snap shot (  say of a setting for sophos ) how would I do that? After I sign into my sophos account when I am posting would I need to post the screen shot in the rich text tab or HTML tab or is there another way to do this?

    Thanks Sandy

    shaunm

  • Thanks Sandy, I will try to post one test screen shot or rather link it, just to make shore I am doing things correct.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

It has been a while ( I think it has been over two weeks ??) since I have posted or been on this site. I did have a problem with my internet service provider ( a billing error ) and I also had a personal family issue arise. I do apologize for not being able to check or post to this website. Normally I check this site at least 2 or 3 times a week, sometimes more often.

    ALSO

In a past post I said I am not shore how to post a image, I think I know how to post images now? I will try to post a test image tonight or tomorrow. I will try to post a test image directly in the post message text box and I will try to post a hyper link to click on that will have a test image. I just want to make shore I am posting images correct. For the subject line I will put test image post.

    Thanks,

    shaunm
