  • HI,

If you kill the process alupdate.exe with taskmanager, does that help?

  • That process isn't there.

  • In that case, does "IsUpdating " value exist under:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\[Wow6432Node]\Sophos\AutoUpdate\UpdateStatus \

If alupdate.exe isn't running you can delete it and try again.  Failing that, try stopping the AutoUpdate service/kill "alsvc.exe".

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\[Wow6432Node]\Sophos\A

    utoUpdate\UpdateStatus \

    didn't exist, only HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\[Wow6432Node]\Sophos\AutoUpdate\

I do see 'IsManaged', but no IsUpdating

When I try to stop the service asvc.exe via task manager, it does, but at the moment I want to install sophos, it stops with the same error and the service gets back.

I also tried to stop the service via services, but then I get the following error message.

  • Hello Jvuz,

I assume the clients had problems before you tried to reinstall - can you say what they were? Which version is installed (can you still open the GUI)?

In similar situations I used msicuu2.exe (withdrawn by Microsoft but still available on the web) to remove the Installer information for Sophos, then installed again. Make sure you install the version that should be on the machine. Use the program with caution.

  • It seemed it didn't do his updates anymore and it wasn't seen in the taskbar, next to the clock. I can't tell which version it was, because I just tried to uninstall it just before you asked. Normally it should be OK now, but I still cannot get sophos installed. :(

  • The minor version usually isn't important, 9.0/9.5/9.7/10.0 make a difference. I have seen one case where  a computer was force-switched off during an install, then a reinstall was attempted with the wrong-version package and then it was a mess. In the case the first install was with a newer version. I cleaned the installer info, managed to install with the newer version and to make sure everything is working as it should uninstalled it, installed the older version and upgraded by putting the computer in a group with the newer version.

  • I think it's 9.7. Which msicuu2.exe should I use?

  • The (I think) latest sfx-archive has 359,656 bytes.
