Anti Virus 9.5.5 - Auto Update - Windows 7 - Domain - Enterprise 4.5

Hi,

When the user logs in sophos update fails to update. Wait a short while (30 secs) and kick it off manually and the update works perfectly.

It seems as if the auto update is attempting to contact the share on the server before all of the network components have started.

Does anyone have a fix or workaround for this issue.

Many thanks

J

  • Hello J,

IIRC HKLM\SOFTWARE\[Wow6432Node]\Sophos\AutoUpdate\StartupDelay can be used to specify the seconds (DWORD value) AutoUpdate should wait after starting before attempting an update.

  • Nice one. Thanks QC. I haven't checked yet, but i guess the same exists for Windows XP under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Sophos\AutoUpdate\StartupDelay ???

  • Yup  (Wow6432Node is for 64bit systems) .

  • Hi All,

I'm resurrecting an old thread here in the hopes of finding some resolve to my issue.

We're starting our Windows 7 64bit testing in our domain environment, everything is going great, but Sophos will not update from 9.0.0.  Our Windows XP 32bit clients work fine(they get 9.5.5) - and they use the same GPO to install.  All 3 components are installed, Anti Virus, Remote Management, and Auto Updater.  When I check the updating log file it doesn't offer much to go on.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,

  • What's the little it has to offer? There's not much else for us to help you - not even the GPO.

  • My apologies Christian, you are right, I should have included more information.

At this time, after having checked back after 2 days, the workstation is (mysteriously) up to 9.5 - I'm guessing the message relay may have been busy at the time I tried to force the update.  I haven't seen this on our WinXP workstations, they're always quick to update.

I will reimage this machine back to default shortly and respond back if the problem persists.  Someone may have intervened to get it to update, we need it to happen automatically, so I'll have to check it out once again.

    Thank you Christian.
