Sophos stalling

Sophos stalls when I reaches a certain file (crushftp3.dmg). I have searched my MAC and no such file is found. How can I delete this file and get the scan to continue?

  • No, there is not file name whatsoever.  Would love to send you or anyone else a screenshot of what I have.

All that the Sophos window says is "Scan this Mac"  "Scan all files and folder on this Mac"  then there is a bar that shows progress of only about 1/8th of the files.  Under that bar it says "No threats found"  "Items remaining 7,020,092"   Then it has a place to click on "Quarantine Manager".  The Quarantine Manager window shows 3 threats.  So I have two problems -- a stalled scan as well as the inability to clear the threats.

I answered the problem of not being able to clear/action threats in your other post.  Post a screenshot whenever you like if it helps explain things.  Use the picture insert button on the reply editor's toolbar...

I just ran a scan that started with well over 1 million items and it got all the way down to 54,790 and stalled.  I noticed that Time Machine had kicked in and was backing up things.  All I could do that time is to stop the scan and start another.  If things like Time Machine start up or the computer goes into sleep they can affect things so maybe watch out for things like that - you could disable Time Machine during a scan and/or plug/unmount external drives to speed up the main scan (then scan them later on separately).

Hopefully it shouldn't be a repeat thing.

  • I don't mean to try your patience but I'm 70 yrs. old and doing my best. I've clicked around but can't figure out how to quit the stalled Sophos scan, start a new one, nor how to turn off TimeMachine temporarily while I turn on a Sophos scan.  --hatual

  • Everything works except that when I click on "Stop Scan" it doesn't do anything.  The same window just stays the same.  It won't stop and remains stalled. I did stop TimeMachine, etc. but can't get the Sophos window to offer up the Start Scan option.  Sigh.

  • You can either wait (put the kettle on it could take a while).  Or just reboot the Mac (quicker and a sure thing).
