  • I've got the same problem here. Installed the software 8.0.2 some days ago, but no Sophos remover appeared on my Applications folder. How can I remove it?

Just delete the folder? Removing manually any library? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thx

    C.

EDIT: FOUND THE REMOVE FILE IN LIBRARIES/SOPHOS ANTI-VIRUS. :P

  • This means you're running the Enterprise version, not the Home Edition.

  • But all of this is really DUMB of Sophos, which pretends to be a simple trouble-free program. Today I have scoured my Mac for anything that says SOPHOS    or   SAVOS    or  UNInSTALL   or   REMOVE   and found nothing at all.  Now don't you all think the company itself could contribute something to this thread?  I have downloaded trials and installed them(Successful) and found nothing that says uninstall nor remove. I'veMoved it all to trash again, deleted it all,  tried again.... this is really exasperating and I think we need to tell the company (or is just some hobbyist that is in over his head?).

  • HOW do we get rid of the shield with the X in it, in the menu bar.  I've deleted everything I can find, but maybe that little icon is telling the new program that there's already a version installed.  This is just lousy.

  • You should not be deleting files; Sophos installs at the kernel level.  Added to this, you appear to have downloaded the trial version of the enterprise product, not the Home Edition.  These products are different and have different uninstall processes (although both involve running an uninstall application --Home Edition from the /Applications/ folder, and the Enterprise edition from the /Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/ folder.

So, if you've already deleted the uninstaller, you'll likely have to re-install the software.  Since you installed the Enterprise version (either through your place of work/education or via the free trial from the website), I'd suggest reading the detailed thread on here discussing uninstalling the Enterprise version to install the Home Edition (but if you don't want to install, just leave off that part of the instructions).

  • You are spot on!

Sophos (home version) has just screwed-up my SuperDuper clone!! And the blighter's got a memory leak a mile wide!

I suspect Sophos must be a bunch of amateurs, riding the crest of a gullibility/trust in "experts" wave:-(

I'd not trust them within a mile of my business!

The "Memory-Hog" and "Screw-up cloning game" continues apace:

Sophos didn't even have the decency to throw-up a warning it would strangle my Mac AND bugger up a VITAL clone!

Even 14-year-old spotty kids learn to warn users of sloth/flakyness…

This has gone on for YEARS!

    What incompetence!

    This post WILL be wiped?…

  • This is extremely user-unfriendly, and clearly the Sophos people aren't giving a clear explanation of how to uninstall.  Is that because it's in their insterests to make it hard to remove their application from your computer?  One is tempted to arrive at that conclusion.

Here's how I removed all visible traces (including toolbar icon), and it's a ridiculous process, but it worked:

-- Download and re-install full version

-- Navigate to your system's "Library" folder and find the Sophos subfolder.  There should be a .pkg called Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg.   BEFORE YOU DOUBLE CLICK -- make a copy of the file to your Desktop.

-- Now double click the original so it uninstalls the NEW installation first.

-- THEN double click the Desktop copy, and it should remove the old installation.

Sophos could simply put a copy of the uninstaller online so you wouldn't have to turn yourself into a pretzel to remove their software -- but why would they?  That'd be too easy.

  • I've removed the libraries, and the preferences files for an old version of Sophos (over a year ago). However, I still get an error when trying to install a new version. (I've done all the recommended ideas in the forums so far).

What more could you suggest to remove all files from an old enterprise version so that I can get a new version running?

    Many thanks for your help!

  • I need to remove Sophos and I see different advice depending on home vs. enterprise edition.

When I check "Sophos Anti-Virus" I see it is version 8.0.11, but there is no information about home vs.enterprise.

Add me to the list of angry frustrated users having problems uninstalling.
