Re: Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition return codes

I tried to download Sophos Anti Virus for Mac and it kept giving me the message that it could not connect to Sophos.  I was already connected to Sophos in order to get the download.  I closed the Sophos window thinking that i needed to disconnect in order get the download, but got the same message.  Did I need to be registered?  I am now but would that be the reason?

  • Maybe it was because I was not registered but I got the download (it said), but don't see the black shield in the menu bar,  What now?

  • Hi, Euphemia, First, what is your computer's OS (Operating System) called, and its version? Pleeaase, always tell us that whenever you need to ask a question. Did you click the button to Save the downloaded file (as I do)? my Downloads panel always automatically offers to Save the file on my hard drive in my Downloads folder, or I can specify Desktop Or, do you, rather, set the Downloads panel to RUN the download? If you Saved the download, did you look into your files, find the folder (or directory) where the file was Saved, and then double-click that file to Run it? If you did not run the downloaded file yet, then you would not have the black shield yet. So, Run the downloaded file. You can Search for it because it ends in .dmg. In the Search slot when you have Finder set on the computer's hard drive, type in, *.dmg and hit Return. You will shortly be given a list of all the .dmg files on the computer. know about when and what day it was, when you downloaded the installer file. LOOK FOR AND FIND the .dmg file that bears that date and time. It probably would be a good idea, first, to uninstall the old Sophos A-V. Turn off WiFi and uninstall. Then turn WiFi ON again and let it log onto the network, then run the download. Follow its instructions. Let us know how it turns out. BTW, the black shield is not a BLACK shield anymore, but it is still a shield. Good luck!

  • Just had the "Sophos installer could not connect tot he primary server although you seem to be connected to the Internet" bug whilst installing Sophos on a brand new MacBook Pro 15" 2.6ghz running OS 10.7.3. After following this thread (& the one it was moved from) I tried all the clicking on date and time tips listed above to no avail. Eventually, thinking it might be a menu bar items issue, I switched off the 'show date and time in the menu bar' item and lo and behold Sophos updated and installed with no problem. I've now switched it back on, so it remains to be seen whether Sophos will auto update! But it does seem that the bug is something to do with Sophos needing plenty of space on the menu bar.
