Update downloading, apparently not installing???

In checking the logs over the past few days, nothing appears to indicate any irregularity. The only indication of change is that the number of threats protected against increases slightly with each download. So maybe it's just coincidental that I saw a few consecutive downloads of approx 120 KB each

I have the same symptoms as MacVegan. The only thing I would correct is that the downloaded size file is around 119.7MB, not 120kb like MacVegan noted (a simple oversight). This has been happening since September 16, 2014 around the time the software update to SAV was released. I found a link (see below) via online search showing the latest of SAV release to be 9.1.6 but I can't get passed my current version of 9.1.5

As I recall, performing SAVHE updates in the past, I seem to only get downloads of tiny file sizes (in KB) and seldom will it get over 1 MB, unless there's is a new release version available.

So I sent an email to techsupport asking what is the latest SAVHE version release but only got a response containing a link to this site to get help, a link to the online manual and a link to see which current version of SAV I'm using (ticket# 4686592) - which didn't really answer my simple question. It seem to download the same size data - consistently around 119.7MB when I update each morning. This looks too suspicious to be a daily coincidence going on for over 2 weeks straight.

Today, I decided to update again 5 minutes later and it downloaded the same amount of data 119.7MB again. It's looks as though it's not recognizing the previous update performed earlier and decided to download the data file again.

I do notice an increase in the number of "threats protected against" from my daily updates. Here's the latest version info installed:

I then quit SAV, re-opened it and performed an update but this time it stayed at the "Downloading" stage much longer (about 4-5 minutes) before I saw any data actually begin to download (normally data would start downloading after 10 seconds or so) before it changed to "Updating Sophos Anti-virus" stage. It downloaded the same size file - 119.7MB. I then quit SAV, re-opened it, checked to see the version info but nothing was different. I performed another update and it went thru the motions but hooray - this time it did not download any data, which is what I expected during back to back updates, unlike what happened earlier as I described above.

Finally, "Get Info" on the Sophos app icon in my Applications folder shows version 9.1.4 (see attached) vs 9.1.5 found in the "About Sophos Anti-Virus" from the SAV Menu.
