  • I did not find a remove Sophos app in either of the suggested locations. I also tried Spotlight search, which confirms that there is no "Remove Sophos" app on my Mac. Is there anywhere to download that app?

  • 1.)  Download the current version of SAV, and mount its disk image file.

2.)  Right-click on the "Sophos Anti-Virus Home Edition.mpkg" icon which will have appeared in a Finder window.

3.)  Choose "Show Package Contents" from the resulting drop-down menu, and go to Contents --> Packages.

4.)  There you will find a "SophosRemoval7.2.4" package icon. Double-click it to launch Apple's Installer.app.

5.)  After entering your admin password to authorize the procedure, "Sophos Remove.app" will be installed in the Applications folder.

6.)  There is no step 6.

  • Hi Community.

I have a strong problem. I  installed SAV free home edition for Mac on 10.6.6.

I am running a Java Application which goes to a link on a https adress. this is correct written at the Java link. Since installing SAV, this link changes while opening to http. Therefore, there is no connection possible. Still, the adress at Java is correct written. I wondered if this might have todo with SAV and deinstalled with the Sophos remove button what worked fine. But still no work.

Also, I am experiencing, that if i click any item at finder with the right mouse tab, that there is still the button "scan with SAV". I am wondering now if this programm is not totally removed from my system. I have updated not to OS10.6.7 to avoid any even simple problems with this, but no change.

    Need help.

    Thank you.

  • SAV only scans and cleans files; it does not affect your network settings at all -- so I don't think it's likely that SAV was the culprit in this case.

However, the "scan with SAV" contextual menu sticking around after running the Sophos Remove app sounds a little strange.  I'd suggest scanning your hard drive for errors using Disk Utility, and repairing disk permissions before doing anything else (upgrading, reinstalling SAV, etc.).

  • Hi Andrew. I did as you said, no failures found. Still having the same problem.

  • Thanks, Andrew.  I had this problem and this suggested solution worked like a champ!  :smileyhappy:

  • Hello everyone,

Running Leopard 10.5.8, installed SAV a month back and it worked perfectly until a week ago when it stopped being able to update. Tried updating manually but it kept returning an error. Finally tried uninstalling using "Sophos Remove" and it keeps returning a failure with exit code 1. Repaired permissions and tried a fresh install but the installer now reports an install failed "The following install step failed: run postflight script for Sophos Anti-Virus. "

It feels like a permissions problem that has walled of one part of SAV but I'm not that technically savvy and cannot really know. I have fixed permissions and tried redoing those steps in Safe Mode but to no avail.

Is there a method for manually removing SAV folder by folder, file by file that does not rely on the installer? Should I sudo anything to fix the permissions on the offending files?

    thx

  • I have seen several sets of instructions for removiing Sophos AV software. However I am unable to follow any of them because when I open the Sophos Anti Virus folder there is no thing for me to click that says Remove Sophos Anti-Virus. pkg. I NEED to get this thing off my computer now. Please help me.

  • The reason that there are multiple sets of instructions is that each version of SAV for Mac has a different uninstall method -- SAV 4 Enterprise, SAV 7 Enterprise, and  SAV 7 Home Edition.  Which version do you have installed?  Home edition has the uninstaller right in the Applications folder (next icon after the Sophos Anti-Virus.app  one).  If it's not there, try re-installing the software, and then run the uninstaller.

If you're not using the Home Edition, you can probably contact your local IT or Sophos Customer Support (if you have a support account number) for help uninstalling if you find the instructions in these forums are confusing.
