  • Thanks Andrew  but when I download this I still doesn't have an uninstall.......... Or am I missing something

    1. Finder
    2. Go menu
    3. Go to Folder…
    4. /Library/Application Support/Sophos Anti-Virus
    5. Remove Sophos Anti-Virus

The uninstaller is installed by the installer; it's not loose in the downloaded package.

    {edited to fix folder path}

  • When I open the library there is no Sophos folder in it. Any other suggestions on how to remove it?

  • Nevermind, I found it. One more level. In the library open application support, then Sophos.

  • I am with Ana still, that is, I have removed the older application of Sophos and can find nothing in the library but when I go to install version 7, I continue to see the box saying I have to remove the older version.

  • I have a Mac computer which I got to keep after I retired from my office.  I have tried to remove the anti-virus software unsuccessfully.  I cannot find the "Remove Anti-Virus.."  option in the Library/Application Support list.  I tried to remove it through the Unix command line, following the prompts recommended by Sophos.  It asks for authentication.  When I typed in "su-" for Super  User command, it asks for a password. I typed in the password that I have for my computer and it's not correct.  I am stuck.  Now what???? Sophos Technical Support and my former office technical support have not been able to help either.
Sophos suggested that I get a Add/Remove program.

    Anyone has any additional suggestions?

  • Those instructions in this thread that refer to the Application Support folder are for removing SAV for Mac Enterprise Edition to install SAV HE.  To uninstall SAV HE, run the "Sophos Remove.app" application located in your /Applications folder right next to the "Sophos Antivirus.app" application.

For your other issue, "su -" requires the root credentials of your computer.  OS X does not have a root user by default; you would need to create one, and should only do this if you are an advanced user.  the "sudo" command accomplishes the same thing on a per-command basis, uses your administrator user's username and password, and is the recommended way of accommplishing administrator tasks on OS X.

If you've been talking to Sophos Technical Support, I presume you have a support contract for the Enterprise version?  The Home Edition is not the same product as the Enterprise version, which could be where you are having difficulties (the instructions you've been given by Sophos Technical Support are all for the Enterprise version -- they don't support the Home Edition; that is done on these forums).

  • Hi,

Please could you check which version of Sophos Anti-Virus you have installed?  You can find this by selecting "About Sophos Anti-Virus" from the Sophos shield menu at the right hand side of the menubar.

I ask this because there are two versions of SAV for Mac.

    The old version 4.9.xx has "Remove Sophos Anti-Virus" in /Library/Application Support/Sophos Anti-Virus/

whereas with version 7.x.x it is in /Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/

    Thanks
