Do you have any entries in your system.log messages (in Console) that contain the text "[EWOULDBLOCK]" - I'd be interested to know what those log messages say, it might help pinpoint what is happening.

I have attached the System log..
when I start my Imac up it tells me the system crashes and when click on report I am told:
your computer was restarted because of a problem: this may have been caused by the currently installed version of Sophos Anti-Virus on-acess scanner. would you like to move it to the trash?i click on more info it takes me to the page below:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT200555?viewlocale=en_AU&locale=en_US
OS X Mavericks: Sophos Anti-Virus on-access scanner versions 8.0 - 9.1 may cause unexpected restarts
Sophos Anti-Virus on-access scanner versions 8.0 - 9.1 may cause OS X Mavericks to unexpectedly restart (kernel panic).
The on-access scanner feature of Sophos Anti-Virus versions 8.0 - 9.1 may cause OS X to stop responding and unexpectedly restart. If this happens, you are presented with an option to move related components of this application to the Trash. Doing this disables the on-access scanner software to prevent this issue from happening again.
For more information, contact the developer of Sophos Anti-Virus to see if an update is available that is compatible with the version of OS X you are using.
Thanks for the log. Surprisingly, I did not find the text I was expecting (our kernel extension never logged anything about problems). Very odd.
I notice that you have an NTFS driver installed from Paragon, are you actively using it? Is there any correlation with accessing / using / unmounting an NTFS drive and when you experience the panic? I'm definitely not shuffling blame, just saying that we don't have any experience with the two kernel drivers on the same system. Its just not something we ever attempted to test. Kernel drivers are finiky things, and co-existance can sometimes be complicated.
