Updating Virus Removal Tool

I downloaded the update for the Virus Removal tool and tried to install it. It asked me to uninstall the previous version which I did with Revo in safe mode. When I tied to install the new version I got the message that Windows could not install it, because I had a previous version installed. I erased all that was linked to The Virus removal Tool. And I get the same message when I try to install the new version. I suppose that there is a registry Key that is left and that gives me that message, but which one.

I run windows 7 home premium on Hp with Intel quad 8200 and 4 Gb RAM.

Any idea how to solve this problem?

Hello RayPor,
too late - but first of all, SVRT can (and should) be uninstalled using Programs and Features.
Now I don't know Revo at all, I did a quick lookup of the website and they say they try to run the product's uninstaller first. As SVRT uses the Microsoft Installer which does not run in Safe Mode I assume this failed and Revo then applied its own logic. I'd expect that you've got some warning from Revo though.
Guess SVRT just asks the Installer the check for a previous install and the Installer in turn consults the information it has stored. Please see Using the Microsoft Fix-It Tool in the Troubleshooting and resolving ... article. In case SVRT is not on the list, its product code is: {B829E117-D072-41EA-9606-9826A38D34C1}.

I did an SDU, how can I send it to you? Or should I go directly to Microsoft FixIt.

Sorry for the confusion, RayPor. I just quoted the article because of the concise reference to Fix-It.
Go directly to Fix-It, do not collect 200$ (or whatever it is nowadays :smileywink:). Afterwards the install should not "see" a previous one.

It di work to a certain extend. FixIt did repair what ever had to be repaired, I could install The removal tool, but I cannot open it. I get a message saying that it cannot open and that I should look at the Log. I don't know how to find the log, so I don't know why the program does not load

The log indicated that:Error: failed to create service (1072: The specified service has been marked for deletion.)

I found the solution for that problem on: http://projectdream.org/wordpress/2007/05/30/the-specified-service-has-been-marked-for-deletion/. And it worked, now I can again use the program.
