Local self Help failure.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post so hope someone can help.

I have safeguard policy edittor at a domain level environment. Enabled Local self help. and set a question theme

On the test laptop safeguard easy is installed ok and is working POA correctly, also C/R is working  with key encrption.

Local self help is activated and all ten questions answered. when i right click on the safeguard shield it tells me LSH active and enabled.

The problem is when i test recovery and hit the recovery button and LSH button the system goes straight key recovery mode. No LSH questions.

Laptop is running Win Vista Business

Laptop Sony Viao

Anyone got any idiea how to fix this. as this encyrption needs to be rolled out by the end of the week.

  • Hi bobbyrobert,

    welcome to the forum!

Thank you very much for submitting the request. With regards to your description can you please check these things:

    1. Local self help will only be available if you enter the user name at POA level and afterwards pressing C/R

    2. Local self help will only work if the log on method at POA is UID/PW only - having a second log on method defined will cause local self help not to work.

At least the second point is planned to be changed in the next release of SafeGuard Enterprise.

    Hope that helps ;)

    Regards

  • Thanks for the reply,

We have the laptop set up so that the user uses their domain username and password to logon on straight through to windows. But if the user was to forget this am i right in saying they could activate LSH? As at the moment this is not availiable as the system goes straight into key recovery...no LSH.

What would be the second log on method that could be defined and how would i deactivate this so i can get LSH working.

    I appreciate your help.

  • Hi Rob,

the purpose of LSH is to enable the user to recover his password in case he has forgotten it.

In order to use LSH perform the following steps at POA level:

    1. Type in the user name of the User (maybe try w/o domain suffix - just enter the short name)

    2. Press recovery

    3. A select box will come up and the user can now select local self help.

This function will only work if the log on method at POA level is Username and Password only - in case that the user can logon with a token additionally the option will not be available.

    Regards
