Error 511 : Installing Sophos 5.50 easy client

Hi all,

Deploying Sophos 5.50 to a number of laptops in our business with no problems. Until today.

When installing the SGNClient i receive a 511 error: Not enough continous space found on installation volume to install basic encryption system kernel.

Specs of laptop. C:drive free space 11Gb D:drive 18Gb on a solidstate 128Gb

Laptop Samsung x360

Vista Business 32bit

Intel core 2 Duo

Any advice would be a wonderful thing

  • Hi bobbyrobert,

thanks for posting. I think you are referring to 5001?

In this case please use the latest available version of the product as we had a bug in the product which was resolved in SG 5.6x that not enough disk space was detected although it should have.

However, on the current system you can try to use defrag and disable any Windows restore points as they pre-allocate disk space w/o actually using it.

  • Hi Dan,

Thankyou for your reply, you have been a great help.

Would i have to upgrade all our users to 5.6x, or could i just upgrade the user with the continous space issue.

    many thanks

  • Hi Dan,

Do you have a link for me to upgrade our client version.

    many thanks

  • Hi Rob,

when updating to a higher version you only have to update the back end but not the clients. However, in this case it might make sense to upgrade all clients just to have one version in place. Anyway, the higher back end should be able to handle these 5.5x clients as well with regards to C/R for example.

If you really plan to upgrade to version 6 please be aware that you won't be able to apply a new client config package to the 5.x clients any more as a version 6 package can't be installed on a 5.x client! Another reason to perform a full range upgrade.

Last but not least you should be able to get the latest version by logging in to sophos.com - if you have any problems with that or the version is not displayed please contact your sales rep for further assistance here.

    Regards

    Dan
