  • I just got bitten by this particular bug myself.  I upgraded the RAM on my laptop from 2 GB to 4 GB, and the POA screen would get corrupted no matter what I did.

In my case, the laptop is a Dell Latitude E5410 running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit and SGN 5.50.8

  • hi,

could you please try the following and let us know if it fixed the problem:

After adding the memory, press the Shift+F4 hotkey when the machine is booting to toggle the VGA mode (Hotkeys are described in the following article - http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/111919.html)

  • Hi Yogmilk,

I've got exactly the same problem here: on my Lenovo X220 with SafeGuard Enterprise installed, I tried to upgrade my memory from 2 GB (Single bank), to 8 GB (2 pieces of 4GB), but after the install I get the Sophos screen, and then it boots further and my screen goes funny: just a lot of white and blue stripes...

So I tried googling for the problem (Solution) and I found this entry here. But, when I start my laptop and enter the screen that says: "Sophos Enterprise is Starting. Please Wait" I try to hit the Shift key plus the F4 key. But nothing happened. Nothing at all... Am I doing something wrong? Are there any other ways in doing this?

Hope you got an answer for me...

    Regards

  • I also have an X220. After upgrading from 2 to 4GB Safeguard crashes in the exact same way as described by UncleB. Please advise if there is any known resolution to this issue.

  • OK, my apologies. When I actually read the pdf file in the KB article referenced by yogmilk, I was able to use the F4 hotkey to toggle vga mode. My machine now boots and is using the new RAM. Thanks - although I'd rather this feature was not there at all :-)

  • I am also getting this error on Safeguard version 5.60.1.7 on a Dell E5520; when I install the aditional RAM I get the POA screen, then the blue safeguard screen with no login prompt followed by some black and white lines and static at the bottom of the page. I have tried the Shift + F4 solution but this has not worked, I do get the toggle display resolution message so I know the command has worked.

  • I've managed to resolve mine with a BIOS upgrade, this seems to have allowed the Shift F4 to work properly.
