Terrible Skype Performance

Looking for any assistance on Skype performance issues.  We have a network running an ASG220 on v8.  Cable modem connection (static ip), with about 20Mb down/5 Mb up.

Once a week, we have an employee who makes a skype call with a vendor.  This always has trouble. Drops regularly, or call quality is miserable.

I am not blocking skype in the Astaro.  I don't see major bandwidth usage during the call period.

I've even created a Qos pool, selected Skype, and guaranteed it 500kb/s.

Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,

    Is it the same vendor being called each time?  If so have you or the employee tried calling someone else, just in case it's that vendor's particular connection rather than yours that might be problematic?  Is it just voice calling being attempted or is the employee using video as well (i.e. with a webcam)?  You may also want to consider the audio/video equipment being used for the calls (both by your employee and the vendor), is the quality any good?  When you say you're not blocking Skype in Astaro I'm assuming you mean under 'Web Security' > 'IM/P2P' > 'IM', is that right?

    You might also run into problems if you've got the 'Scan HTTPS (SSL) Traffic' tickbox enabled under 'Web Security' > 'HTTP/S' > 'Global', because I think Skype establishes a secure connection to encrypt all communications.
