[solved]Youtube videos not playing on ipod touch or iphone? Here's solution:

I had found that recent updates to either the ASG or ipod software had broken my ability to view videos from youtube. Took a while to find solution, so I thought I'd post what I did to get it working again.
It was related to the AV scanner/content filter.
Adding the following to the AV content filter exception list took care of it.
googlevideo.com
gdata.youtube.com


hope this helps someone else out.

    I'm fighting this same problem, ASG version 7.503 (problem also existed in 7.500, 7.501, 7.502).  Have the problem with YouTube and all other YouTube-like video services on iTouch.  Therefore, excluding youtube.com, et. al., is not complete for me.  Also had problem on iTouch with POP3 proxy to my ISP.  I have another Wireless Access Point on the outside of the ASG where these problems do not occur.  Internal Windows clients work absolutely fine.

    I read in another post that various ISP (e.g., aaNet) proxies rewrite a header that the Apple software seems to reject.  Seems ASG may be doing the same thing.

    I added my iTouch to the Transparent Mode Skiplist for both HTTP and POP3.  Seems to work fine.  However, now the iTouch gets all the sites I block in the proxy (web ads, etc.).  I'd like a solution that allows the iTouch and iPhone to work like all other internal clients, retaining the security and content filtering of the proxy.

    Astaro is not an AP, just use packet filters to make it behave like an AP

    Headers is not the problem you are experiencing even though astaro does not strip/rewrite headers. As the OP said, the problem is av scanning. I always allow everything for my smartphones etc on astaro but if you want content filtering, you can look into proxy profiles. Just block everything that you block usually and skip the av scanning, kinda pointless for iphone anyways.

    I turned off the Transparent Mode Skip List for the iTouch to get the log entries.  Then, on the iTouch going to YouTube, it received the static jpg images fine.  When I clicked on one, it gave "The Server is not correctly configured" error.  Here are the log entries:

    Understand the ASG is not an AP.  I wasn't very clear in my post.  I have two WAPs - one behind (protected by) the ASG and another in front (upstream or unprotected by ASG).  I receive the iTouch errors above when connected to the WAP behind the ASG.  I do not receive them when on the WAP in front of the ASG.

    Your approach is dead on.  Under Web Security | HTTP/S | Exceptions, I made an exception list which skipped AV for the iPhones as source.  Worked like a champ.
