OpenVPN 2.12 now available

A minor update, v.2.12 has shown up on OpenVPN's website.  Fixes some issues and includes a little security patch.

    Looks like they fixed a 'minor' issue with Windows DNS.

    How soon to see this in the Up2Date?

    Astaro up2date V8.002 have only OpenVPN 2.1.1.
    Why not OpenVPN 2.1.2 ?

    I need the *** Added --register-dns option for Windows.

    Michael, you've been around for a long time!  I'm pretty certain that you could download the 2.1.2 client, modify the present configuration downloaded from the Astaro and it would work just fine.

    Hello Bob,
    I update my Astaro to Version 8.002 and download the Astaro SSL VPN Client over the
    User Portal and install it.
    Now I start my Connection and the OpenVPN Version is 2.1.1

    Mon Sep 27 21:00:13 2010 OpenVPN 2.1.1 i686-pc-cygwin [SSL] [LZO2] built on May  7 2010

    Doesn't setting "Register addresses in DNS" in the Properties -> TCP/IP -> Advanced -> DNS dialog of the SSL VPN adapter cut it for you or why do you need this option?

    We have 150 Notebooks worldwide.
    The User connect to SSL VPN and sometimes he can´t connect to our servers.
    He can only ping the IP of the Host not the Hostname.
    Now you must execute a " ipconfig /registerdns " and it works.

    The OpenVPN Client V. 2.1.2 fix this problem (i hope so)

    Yes, that was a long standing bug, but I've found the reason for it lately and it should be fixed in the upcoming ASG V7.508 and ASG V8.002. "Should" be fixed because it's not a solution that will work in 100% of the setups, but I expect at least 97%. In combination I've done a total number of ~20.000 successful connects with XP, Vista and 7 during testing. I'll work out a final solution with the openvpn guys later. If you still run into problems let me know.

    Issuing "ipconfig /registerdns" had the side effect of renewing the lease on the SSL VPN adapter which successfully set the DNS server in the Windows resolver. So, a "ipconfig /renew" would have done it as well.
