SSL VPN Connection / Network Problem

Hi all,

I have setup a SSL VPN connection so a roadwarrior accounant can access our internal network... I am testing using my laptop and a mobile broadband modem here in the office.  Anyway, I downloaded the setup stuff from the user portal and installed it.  It says it is connected and I can ping the internal machine (Where the accountant data file is) from the laptop, but cannot see the network from windows network places.  I can not ping from the internal machine to the laptop either.

Any help would be appreciated!!

    I have a support ticket open on this as well, and Astaro asked me to check the results of a "route print" before and after connecting, but I really don't know what I am looking for... they said it may be a problem with the routes getting passed to the client, again.. not really sure what to look for on this one..

    They want you to make sure the correct VPN route is put in place, and that the metric for the VPN route is lower than your "regular" route - so it will be tried first.

    Presumably you also put in place the two .ovpn config file additions:
    route-method exe
    route-delay 2
    (though for the route-delay, some are helped by a longer delay - up to 20)

    Well, we got it working.. one of the support techs logged into our box and added a couple masquerading rules that were required since we are not split tunneling.  I am getting complaints that the connection is really s-l-o-w.. anybody know which authentication / encryption has the least overhead?

    I had missed that you weren't able to get back out to the Internet, so I didn't think of a masq 'VPN Pool (SS) -> External', but now it's clear that was what you meant when you said that you couldn't ping the laptop.

    Slow?  Are you on DSL or a cable modem?  That would be a good reason to go split tunnel.

    Depending on what your accountants are doing for you, you might consider having them use remote desktop instead of trying to move your accounting data files back and forth over your internet connection.  That's bound to be slow.

    Good insight, Eric.  Depending on the application, there are special client versions for remote access; if one isn't available for the one your comapny uses, then RDP is the only reasoable choice... especially if you're paying the accountant by the hour!
