Nortel VPN client (outbound)

Perhaps this is common knowledge, but I just wanted to tell you that I had zero problems using a Nortel VPN client (w32) from inside my ASL box, to a VPN server on the Internet.

Somehow, I thought this was going to be a problem with NAT (somewhat like the problems with Netmeeting), but apparently it is not.

Is the Nortel VPN client using PPTP ? I'm interested as I have to set up an MS NT4 PPTP client to connect to a VPN server on the internet.

The Nortel VPN client uses IPSEC. To use it, create a filter for UDP 500 as a source and destination port, create a filter for ESP with the range set to 254:65535. Then create rules to allow your masqueraded clients to use both filters.

Tester... yes, it uses IPSEC, but it was not necessary using any filters whatsoever to make it work from inside my NATed network.

I think the Nortel IPsec client is doing UDP escapslation, that is why it works behind a NAT device such as ASL.
