PPTP failing with V2.016

People should read the board before posting new articles. This matter is discussed in several threads now.

I have read the other topics relating to PPTP before posting this topic and have found none that resolved my problem.
The only suggestions I have found were making sure the password did not have any special characters, making sure the win2k was using the same encryption strength, making sure to use the latest version of Astaro (2.016), all of which I have done.

The passwords we are using do not contain any special characters. The PPTP works for a short time (an hour), before it stops working altogether.

We're experiencing the same problems too..

Could someone from Astaro get back to us, and tell us if this is a known bug or not?

I too am recieving these messages. I have been able to get the VPN to at least register external users by:
1) setting the "User Authetication" under the System Tab to point to my Win2K VPN server. Ii is possible (probable?) that this has no affect but I include it for completeness sake.
2) Removed all users from the Definitions.
3) Stopped and restared the VPN service.
4) Added a user *but I hand assigned the IP address from my existing pool*.
5) Configured my client side VPN to use the password assigned to the user I created (I do not send my Windows password/domain information). I am testing from work so I have no way of knowing what the affect of accessing domain resource will be but I suspect it will not be good. 

Could it be possible that the ASL is not giving out IP addresses in the right fashion? I ask this because unless I specifically set an IP address for a user, I can not get a completed VPN access.

please check if the file /etc/wfe/conf/proxyauth.ini
contains a section 

if yes, check the spelling as well.

If not create it above [pptp_user]

Maybe that solves the problem.

Same stuff started for me also on one of my astaro servers. 


Any ideas? I checked the proxy.ini and i can see the users and everything....

I have WinXP running PPTP through a smoothwall from home to the company running ASL 2.019 without any problem.

What settings do you use in WinXP ?
Does it work with W2K ?

Should I do some Screenshots with the settings ?

Does the connecting work? 
Did you add PacketFilter rules ?

I'm running 2.16 and I experience this occasionally, but it only seems to be when I make an important config change that somehow affects the PPTP ie. routing, ports, etc.

Before I installed the 1.4 dun (Win98) from M$ I could log back in through another IP available on the outside firewall.  After 1.4 I don't get back in on any IP untill I logout and in to my ISP.

Are you sure to autorize GRE ( proto ip 0x47) to transit in your local firewall ?? i cannot create pptp conection if in my home i block GRE

If your pptp client is running through a NAT firewall you will get this error in the log and never get a connection. You cannot run PPTP over NAT. Some NAT firewalls allow it to work but a lot don't. Test my theory by using an independent dial up account straight to the internet and give the PPTP client a go. Bet it works.....
