Reregistering Endpoints

Hello,

I 'inherited' a UTM at a customer site with an active license, but the Endpoint Management in the UTM is very basic. Because 100+ of the endpoints was no longer valid, I flushed the whole list, assuming that the clients would simply reappear when contacting the server.

They don't.

So now what? Is there a command I can run on the clients to resync? Or is the only solution reinstalling the antivirus client? And if so, is there a way to automate it silently? I don't have an msi.

Thanks in advance.

  • Thank you. These are however switches for the installer - so basically it would mean reinstalling every single client. I hoped for a command that can be run against one of the executables in the existing installation. This seems to be such a basic command that I cannot imagine this is not possible.

  • Hi Jassen,

Contact support if there is any alternative or a command available. Post us if there is any which could help others.

    Thanks

  • I called the supplier and they say it's not possible, so I will have to redeploy the client to the whole domain. Or I restore a backup from the UTM, but then I have everything back I wanted to get rid of.

  • Wait a minute!

You said, "the Endpoint Management in the UTM is very basic. Because 100+ of the endpoints was no longer valid."  I don't know what you mean.  Restoring a backup may be your best solution, but please explain very specifically what you saw and what your conclusion means.

    Cheers - Bob

  • Restoring a backup was not a solution, as this would also bring back all the obsolete entries. It's easier for me to redeploy clients than to compare a list with clients known by Sophos and clients active the last X days in AD. Because this functionality is missing, this is how I did it. All is fine now. I just don't understand why Sophos did not make it easy to reregister an endpoint.

There a similar discussion going on about DHCP on the UTM: last time I checked you could not clear a lease. Only clear the whole DHCP. The UTM is a great machine, but it does pay a price in depth by missing some basic features in some of its tasks.
