Hello,

I'm a french student and during my internship i was asked to research for an antivirus for Linux file server.

Sophos endpoint protection seems to be a good solution but there is still a few thing i would like to clear up before present my report.

In particular the virus definition update, is it a file to download manually or is it possible to manage this update from a Windows environment ?

About the management console, can you give me some clarification. Is it working in a mixed environment ?

    Salut, emmentaler, and welcome to the User BB!

    There are two aspects to Sophos UTM anti-virus; one at the perimeter in the UTM, and the other in UTM Endpoint Protection in client PCs.  By default, each of these updates the pattern definitions automatically, but it is possible to configure them separately for whatever scheduled upload the customer requires, or to have it only done manually.  In Endpoint Protection, the administrator normally "locks down" the client configuration so that the enduser cannot change these settings.

    The Enterprise Console is part of the "classic" Sophos product line.  The UTM product which I discussed in the previous paragraph was purchased from Astaro two years ago, and a portion of the "classic" Sophos Endpoint product was added to the UTM offering in version 9 which was released last year.

    If you want more information on the Enterprise Console and the complete, classic Sophos Endpoint product, you should ask questions on that bulletin board.  Thos products aren't discussed in-depth here.

    I have only more question :

    Is the Linux server download the definition update itself or is this the station were the Security Center console is installed (on Windows) and then it's deploy on the Linux server ?
