In discards Lan Interface

 Hello,

At a customers site on a sg125 my monitoring tool detects many in discard error on the Lan port, on the connected switch i do not see these errors.

How can i troubleshoot these discards?

  • Fooc,

make sure to configure Speed and Full Duplex on both Switch and XG side. Also can you share the output from the following commands:

    netstat -s

    ethtool -S "portname"

You should execute these commands from CLI > Option 5 > Option 3

    Thanks

  • Thanx man, i will check that.

I made i mistake by posting it in xg forum, it is a sg125, so the cli commands will be different.

Do you advise to allways set the duplex and speed fixed?

  • Fooc,

it is always a best practice (switch, router, firewall and every network devices) to set the port to fixed speed and mode. This will prevent possible error and reduce the time between the devices to find the correct settings.

  • Hi,

Take SSH to UTM and execute, ifconfig. Execute the command for multiple times and see if there is an increase in error and dropped packets for the LAN interface. If error packets are discovered change the hardware negotiation  speed that matches with the Switch and if dropped packets are observed replace the physical connection between the devices.

    Thanks
