Web filter - Warn

How can I setup a webfilter without any sso or agent or browser authentication?

I added a policy that applies to anyone and at any time, but it does not take affect. testing the filtering using the test url option says that it should warn but when you browse to the sites categorized as warn, nothing happens.

I set the global setting to Standard. When set to transparent or full transparent websites do not even load.

how am i supposed to make this work? Its never worked for me. thanks.

  • Hi,

Please post screenshots of the configuration for web protection policy. Also, set the authentication method to none in the global settings for web protection.

Restart httpproxy and clear browser cache. To restart httpproxy take SSH to UTM and execute:

    /var/mdw/scripts/httpproxy restart

    Thanks

  • Hmmm, hopefully, in the mean time, you've RTFM! [;)]  I can't tell what you've done, but it sounds like you think that Policies are additive and that's not the case.  The first Policy that a request qualifies for is the only one that will be applied to that request.  This is the same behavior for all ordered lists in WebAdmin.

  • Hi UserUser,

Just to clarify, if you proxy to the UTM via the proxy settings in IE on 8080 does it load?

And also, have you configured masquerading rules under Network Protection > NAT?

If the page doesn't load at all with errors like No Internet that can mean either:

    • No Masquerade is configured
    • Transparent filtering set up does not allow the source you're coming from (discounted because the policy helpdesk confirms this)
    • The default gateway of your test device is not the UTM (if it's the only gateway on the network then obviously not this)

Check those three things first and as said previous, a few screenshots of your setup would be most helpful :)

    Emile
