Can't get portforwarding to work for Minecraft server

Hello everyone,

I am trying to host a Minecraft server and I feel as if I have tried everything and you all are my last resort. I have No-IP as a DNS and have even set that up through Sophos however, no matter what I do nothing seems to work. Here is what I have so far.

  • Hi, and welcome to the User BB!

172.120.7.16 isn't an IP in 172.16.0.0/12.  Are you sure that's the address of your server?  If that's not the problem, try #3 in Rulz.

    Cheers - Bob

  • According to the picture of the DNAT, the address of your server is 172.120.7.116.  That's outside of the private address space of 172.16.0.0/12 as specified by RFC 1918.

  • Oh wow... Such a noobie mistake. I will change the address and report back to you. I didn't think about that, glad you pointed it out. The weird thing is, it works just fine on my wireless router's firewall when using port forwarding. Any ideas?
  • Yeah that fixed it. I can't believe I did that after having gone through network+... -_- Thanks man I appreciate your time.
  • Never mind. The server is able to be recognized however, Sophos immediately kills the connection when they try to connect. Any ideas?
  • Sophos immediately kills the connection

Why are you sure that the UTM is blocking? Might also be the server's firewall or similar.

    Any ideas?

Yes: Check the logs (firewall, IPS)... [;)]

    Private Setup:

    • XG: HPE DL20 Gen9 (Core i3-7300, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD) | XG 18.0 (Home License) with: Web Protection, Site-to-Site-VPN (IPSec, RED-Tunnel), Remote Access (SSL, HTML5)
    • UTM: 2 vCPUs, 2GB RAM, 50GB vHDD, 2 vNICs on vServer (KVM) | UTM 9.7 (Home License) with: Email Protection, Webserver Protection, RED-Tunnel (server)
  • Because as I stated above, it works just fine when using the router's firewall. That is why I know Windows Firewall isn't blocking the connection.
  • As scorpionking suggests, try #1 in Rulz.

Should I assume this to mean you have a router in line with your UTM? Are you double-natting? If your router has a firewall and a DHCP and your UTM also has firewall and DHCP that could explain why it's not working.

I setup a minecraft server for my son and his friends and they're not having any issues accessing the internal server.

Can you provide a little more info on your current configuration?
