BUG?V8, unable to select add.ip.address from masquerading

In V8 i'm not able to select an additional ip address from the 
Network Security/NAT/Masqquerading option when creating or cloning a new masquerading rule.

For example:

Interface: External WAN
Use address:  .... all my ip addresses are shown as defined under  Interfaces&Routing/Interfaces/Additional IP Addresses but as soon as I want to select one of the additional addresses the > always returns in the selection box.

Any idea what causes this behavior, is this by design or a bug in V8?

    Hi,
    the answer is very simple, you are trying to MASQ the interface to itself.

    Why are you trying to setup a MASQ for 1 IP address, you would normally do that with either an SNAT or DNAT depending on what you are trying to achieve.

    Hi, just to make sure that whe talk about the same....because I don't think we do. 

    What I want to do is mask for example my VPN network 10.x.y.z. with another free public ip adres, that I have configured on my astaro box, when reaching the internet that this addidtional extern address is used instead of the default WAN Adapter address. As far as I understand that should be possible here in masquerading, and in V7 this works (according to a friend who has a 7.5 version), but not in V8.

    Part of the online help that says:

    Use Address: If the interface you selected has more than one IP address assigned (see Interfaces & Routing >> Interfaces >> Additional Addresses), you can define here which IP address is to be used for masquerading.

    But selecting an additional is not possible for me, they are displayed, but cannot be selected.

    I now use a SNat and Dnat rule and that works fine, but as far as I understand it should be done in the masquerading tab.

    Any suggestions why I cannot select those additional addresses although they are being displayed in the drop down box?

    It's exactly what Ian told you.  In the 'Network' field, you have "External (WAN) (Network)" and that's wrong - change that to "Internal (Network)" and you won't have any problem.

    Hi,

    In my Network filed I have "Internal Network" and not External like you or Ian thinks, please see the attached picture.

    If i want to select an additional address from Use Address this is not possible.

    Hi, fwiw SNAT is effectively the same as MASQ. 

    You don't need DNAT unless you want incoming traffic, and if you do, you need DNAT whether you're using MASQ or SNAT.

    Hi, Thanx for the reply.

    I know it's effectively the same and it works, but the question is, if its a bug in V8that the additional addresses cannot be selected.

    Check the picture in your first post, and you'll understand why Ian and I said what we did.

    You're right - you have found a WebAdmin bug!  Apparently, V8 is happy with an Additional Address masq rule created in V7, but won't let you edit/create a masq rule to use an Additional Address.  I confirmed this on both V8.000 and .001.

    I've submitted this as a bug, citing your initial report and this thread.

    Looks to be an IE8 issue. I had the exact same symptom - specifying a secondary IP for masquerading always returned the Primary - and was able to set the configuration with FireFox.
    ASG120, 8.02 (fresh install)
    IE8/Win7/FF3.6
