Still QOS

Hi

Just want to make it clear. I have a 1500/256 unlimited plan. So according my understanding my uplink is 1500 and donwline is 256.
Am I right ?

Now I know that I can change the default QOS bandwidth by turn on QOS options for my Internal NICs, using something like 1500:1000:256:256 but when I tried to change the default bandwidth for the downlink, ASL just does not take the similar options 256:172:56:28

Is this becuae this feature only supported on uplink interface ? Am I doing something wrong.

QOS only works on outgoing traffic.

Also, you should only configure your External interface for QOS.

Hi

when you say outgoing traffic, does that mean the 1500 part ?

Why this is not implemented on the downlink part ? I do not think it is too hard to implement. One of my housemates useing a peer to peer downloading tool, and he used almost 220kpps of my 256kbps downlink, when I tried to access other website it is so slow.

any other way I can control it ?

I would be extremely suprised if your DSL is 1500k outgoing, and 256k incoming.

Normally, your incoming (downloading) speeds are higher.

Therefore, your outgoing would be 256k.

Tell your firewall that you have a 256k uplink and 1500 downlink.

It's not implemented on the downlink because linux doesn't do that with QOS. It can be done with "traffic shaping", at least in BSD, but I don't know about linux.

thanks for your reply, yes you are right. my paln is 1500/256 and that is clear enough.

If I understand you correctly, unless this is being implemented in Linux kernel, ASL just can not do it. Is this right ?

ASL's QOS should help with your outgoing bandwidth issues, which are probably the real problem you are seeing.

I'm not sure if you can do that in V6.

Just set it to 1500 for incoming, and 256 for outgoing.

And then roll the dice. If QOS works great..but it seems QOS is mostly not working.
