5.201 and the same FTP problem

I still have the same old FTP problem on large files but I am not using a standard FTP port. I wonder if the Astaro team would consider an easy way to configure ip_contrack_ftp (I think that is the ftp helper) to use a non standard port?

I'm having problems, and support tells me they are working on it.

It does work fine if I don't use passive FTP.

I host an FTP server using PASV FTP and have no problems at all.
I am, however, forwarding my preset PASV port range to my internal server. Does that ake a difference?

before you rail against astaro support, tell us more about your problem! I have been in contact with support and they told me, version 5.102 fixed a problem regarding broken ftp-downloads. What kind of FTP do you use, active or passive? What about the Proxy settings of your ASL?

thank’s for helping me! But I’m sure that it is no configuration problem because the Astaro support was connected to the appliance and told me that they can reproduce the problem and that it will be fixed in the next up2date.

The same problem occurs in thread #57327 especially #57364

It’s regardless to use the proxy from Astaro (Standard, Anonymity None) or a direct FTP connection thru the Astaro.. The problem occurs in active and passive mode with IE, WS_FTP or FTP from CLI.

A work around is use passive mode on your server.  Allocate specific high ports on the server for it to use.  Allow those high ports into your ftp server.  I would only do the above if the ftp server was a dmz.  The ftp server recieves the connection and moves it to an allowed high port.  Again a work around if ftp conntrack is not working properly (not ideal).  We had to do this to get ftp to work since 5.100.

recently I have problems with my ASG220 v 5.203 and ftp download/upload of big files (more than 10MB).
During download/upload at a certain moment the transfer session aborts.
I upgraded my ASG to v. 5.204 but I have the same problem!!

I changed the DNAT / SNAT rule for the ftp service which seems to work. I changed the SRC translation to the "External adress". I don't know if this supposed to be this way, it seems a bit illogical to me so perhaps somebody could explain this to me?

I was able to login this way and even could transfer a 3 Mb file, let's hope this works for our customers as well(!)

All -> External (Address) / FTP   External (Address)   FTP-server / FTP 
DNAT_FTP2   All -> External (Address) / FTP-CONTROL   External (Address)   FTP-server/ FTP-CONTROL

I'm still suffering from this issue.

AFAICS it isn't addressed in 5.207 either.
