DMZ vs Internal Web Servers

I'm wondering how many people feel it's simply too risky to run a web server on an internal network in lieu of using a dmz machine.

I suppose I could pose it as two questions:  IIS  6 &  Linux/Apache

    the first question -> it's not a good idea to run a server wich is reachable from outside in the lan, because if someone breaks into this machine he/she/it has access to the rest of your lan or depending to your configuration one could attack other machines on the net.

    if you put it in a dmz one will be caught there (but again - depending to your configuration).

    the other question iis or apache? -> i prefer apache but it's a question like windows or linux. if one is more familiar with windows i'm sure his windows machine will be more secure than a linux machine wich is installed from a linux starter.

    If you have data on your internal network that you can't afford to lose or be stolen, then it is too risky.

    Otherwise, maybe you can live with it.
