network rates

Hi all:

I'm testing astaro v5 with 3 nics (internet, lan, dmz). I had read that in v5 QoS is always on. When I test the nekwork rates from lan to dmz I have only 2Mbits. The nics and the swicht are 100Mbs. There is no traffic in the network. Why I only take 2Mbs?

    It's going to depend on what kind of harware on which ASL is running. As well as what services you have running on ASL.
    Example... FTP transfer from internal to DMZ was clocked at 4800 KB/s, with IPS on it clocked in at ~2000 KB/s. I trimmed down the ruleset removing rules for services that I dont use or host. Then restested, 3600 KB/s. I'm using a PIII-600, 256MB RAM with 5 NICs and a lot of the other ASL features turned on. I'm sure I could do a little better with a P4-2GHz, but, how much? I'm not sure.

    With astaro v4 with the same services the tranfer rate was 80Mbs!!!!!!!!!

    OK. That would be a problem then. Is it an internal, non-DNS dependent, transfer? FTP, SMB? Have a look a your logs to see if anything is failing/getting dropped, whatever.
    Also, make sure that ASL v5s hardware detection has properly set your NICs speed/duplex.

    IPS on or off?

    4.x didn't have IPS so you're comparing apples and oranges.

    Turn IPS off, or disable it for INT-DMZ if you need to.

    IPS is off. All the nics are good detected. When I tranfer a file from intern to dmz or from dmz to intern (smb) I have only 2MBs of transfer rarte.

    What's the MTU on your LAN? Try transferring a large (500Meg) file. It will take a long time but you can do a top at the console and see if there's a process using a lot of ram or CPU diring a transfer.
    Is it a direct transfer, or are you bouncing it off of the internal side of a DSL router?
