pinging dmz from internal lan

I would like to know why can I ping my dmz. I can ping it from my internal lan I thought the whole purpose of a dmz was not to allow any communication between the internal network and the dmz. I even created a packet filter that went like this internal to dmz reject but I was still able to ping the dmz . Is this a normal practice?

The ICMP protocol suite, which ping is part of, is turned on and off separately in ASL's Webadmin. Just turn it off, if you don't want ping to work.

I have a similar problem! I just want to drop pings from one network to the firewalls interface. I created a service and packet filter rule to drop both ICMP echo request and reply. But the pings still work. How can I manage this?
