Greetings,
Pardon the long and general Subject but if I generate some dialogue here maybe someone might get some good search hints. The details of my setup are below. I'm having trouble in trying to isolate a bottleneck with throughput.
If I ping from the router to the external interface of the astaro FW I get measurements of 48ms to 7SECs If I ping from the astaro FW to the internal interface of the router I get measurements of 28ms to 7SECs. So, same behavior --a good deal of bottleneck here but I'm not sure _why_ There's generally a wide delta on ping times to anywhere (but no packet loss).
I'm seeing alot of collisions on the internal interface, and generally web browsing is at 2-6Kb/s (according to Opera). It also takes a few seconds for each page to begin loading. The performance should be much better with a 768/768 line.
QoS is _not_ on with my configuration.
So some questions:
o Try a different NIC on the int interface?
o Crossover cable between the hub and FW?
o Ditch the hub for a switch?
o I'm not seeing the FW hardware being taxed but I'm getting
a new, speedier system in about a week.
I have the following configuration:
Efficient Router 5800 Series (ext 65.123.123.1 / int 192.168.2.1)
Astaro v5.004 Evaluation (ext eth1 192.168.2.2 / int eth0 192.168.1.254)
Astaro is installed on a 447.695 PIII, 321 RAM, 4Gb disk w/ 2x Compaq NC3121 Fast Ethernet NIC
The connection is from a 3com hub (out to 7 other XP pcs), straight through cable to eth0, straight
through cable to the Efficient Router.
