can't get dsl to connect

What type of DSL do you have , Is your DSL a static IP account or dynamic  What DSL provider are you using ......

I have bellsouth dsl and my ip is dynamic. I'm connecting via ppoe. I've setup the external interface for my bellsouth connection. I than configured the dns proxy and the http proxy. The dns proxy was set to serve request from my internal interface. I also listed my isp's dns servers in the dns forwarding section. I than setup a packet filter to allow all access. Like I stated before I'm on a windows 2003 domain. So I set up my win 2003 dhcp server to give out the ip address of the internal interface as my default gateway. I also went ahead and configured ie 6.0 to use astaro as a proxy.

What NAT rules have you defined so far?

At a minimum, you need to masquerade the External interface.
Do you have a NAT rule like the one below?

Internal_Network__-> All / All MASQ__External  None
   

Provided that you are connected to the DSL you would need to set up masq to allow connection as you said that you already allowed a packet filter to allow outbound connections to the internet. If you look at the kernel live log do you see any activity ? Velvet is correct set up a masq rule if you have not done so.   

I was able to get connected I corrected my masq problem. After I did that I went to the http proxies and allowed  internal_network_  access. I had before just allowed access to my internal interface. I went back and looked at the network tab and realized that the internal_network_   represented my network id for example 192.168.25. I don't understand why it did not work when I just have my internal interface access. After all I thought that was the interface that was supposed to be allowed access in order to pull http traffic.  Also I normally hook to the interent with a linksys befsr41 router. Maybe its my imigination but surfing seems faster with the linksys. How are you guys surfing speeds?

If your machine is behind the HTTP proxy you may see some slow down I do not run my machine behind the HTTP proxy I do however run it for other machines in my network. ( kids) machines You also want to make sure that if you are doing that exclude the IP address in your browser settings of  ASL IE; 192.168.2.1 or whatever the IP is to your ASL box this may help with your slow downs...  You can find a more detailed information on that in the manual under HTTP proxy...

Yes I took the ip of the astaro box and included it in ie's settings. I plain on setting up cacheing so hopefully that will help a little.   

I used to have my ASL box connected inbehind a Linksys BEFSR41 router when I first set up ASL.

That lasted for the first 6 weeks. Then I removed the Linksys router and sold it 2nd hand to a friend. I just didn't see the point any more in having it sitting there inbetween the ASL box and the ADSL modem.   

You do have a point there. Maybe there would be a use for it if it was doing some tcp/ip filtering, but basically its only doing nat.
