Inital config

Here is the situation. Im not quite sure how to fit astaro into this.  We have an incoming t1 with a router provided by the telecom company.  THe router is doing nat for us.  I would like to put the astaro box in between the internal computers and the router.   Can i just add two internals on the astaro box and have it "pass though"?  If anyone could shed some light on this it would be much appreciated.

    you can have private addresses on both sides of the Astaro, no problem as long as this are two different networks!

    Example:

    internal network ---- 192.168.0.1/24 ASL 192.168.1.1/24 ---- router
    192.168.0.0/24        internal IF                 external IF

    You need to tell your router to route 192.168.0.0/24 to 192.168.1.1 in this example.

    Some questions first:
    Did you want to put any computers between the T1 router and the ASL box?  (like a DMZ?)

    Are there going to be any servers behind the ASL box that you want to export services on, i.e. port forwarding, making them visible the outside word? (www, ftp server, etc?)

    IF you are not exporting services there shouldn't be a problem with "double NATing" (T1 rtr doing NAT then the ASL box doing NAT again).  Besides, the term "external interface" realy is only a descriptive term to define the interface on the outside, or closest to the Internet.
    Also you do have the freedom to not use NAT on the ASL box if that is what you mean by and "external" vs "internal" interfaces.
