Barco ClickShare WiFi integration - auto detect

Dear all,

since I can't get the infos from the manufacturer I hope someone in this community came across this already:

we just aquired a brand new Barco ClickShare CSM-1 system which I integrated into our UTM WiFi infratsructure. While the Ethernet port is on the same network as the wireless APs, Android, iOS and the ClickShare (WiFi) buttons are located in two different WiFi networks (one for internal employees and one Hotspot network for guests). The ClickShare buttons got their configuration from pairing so they connect from the Hotspot WiFi directly to the IP address (walled garden) located in the AP network, but Android and iOS clients search for the base unit using a broadcast on UDP port 9870.

If I manually configure the IP address on the app it works but I really would like to automate this process because once someone presents the IP address information from the initial screen is gone / not suitable for guests or non-IT people.

Any idea how to re-route this broadcast to the base unit?

    If they are on separate subnets, then it won't work as broadcast traffic can't traverse networks.  Port forwarding won't work as that would turn the traffic from broadcast to unicast.

    Thank you Scott_Klassen for your reply - maybe I haven't put it the right way :

    I am looking for any solution/idea since I have nearly no experience with this device and the list of ports used in the manual is not complete. Maybe it could also make use of DHCP options which I could easily configure ... some magical undocumented feature if you will. Integrating the device into a company network is supported so it shouldn't be too difficult for them to support a scenerio similar to the one we have here.

    Well, I went through all documents but it has only 95% information - for example ports used by the devices. I could see in the UTM live log that there were many more and after some emails with them I got a better list, which also wasn't complete. Same with their network integration to Polycom VC system - the key info is missing and I still can't open a proper ticket (waiting for my user to be authorized)

    I'm not hugely hopeful given that this is bcast, but maybe you can try a DNAT from the client network to the base station.  It wouldn't hurt to try.

    Hi,

    I don't believe this will work either.  I had a similar issue to this with another device, where I had connected the base station to the corporate network, but the clients were wireless clients connecting in on their own networks.  What I did in the end was to create a presentation network, which gave access to the Internet and contained the base station as well as clients who wanted to use the system.  This wasn't the same video sharing device you used however.  We were using VLANs so I could just put the switch port for the base station into the presentation network.

    Hope this helps, realise the user experience is not good.  It is a shame so much of this kit relies on broadcast traffic to do easy configuration.  The product I was using did suggest I could use a mobile device management solution to push the config to the users but as the user own their devices I didn't want to go down this route either.
