External interface cycling up/down

UTM 9.205-12 software appliance running in an ESXI 5.1 VM

3 Intel PRO 1000 NICs (external, wireless, internal)
Setup as VMXNET3 in ESXi

The external interface (connected to a Rogers cable modem) is cycling up/down every 2 to 5 minutes.
No error lights on the cable modem.
UTM dashboard shows Error on eth2 then Up, then Error etc

Any suggestions where to look?

TIA,

Mike

  • Mike, do you see anything related with #1 in Rulz?

  • Possibly related: I've got a client with an UTM120 w 9.205 on Comcast/Xfinity and the UTM dashboard is showing errors on the WAN interface.

He's using the Comcast router in NAT mode, fwiw.

  • Power cycling the cable modem fixed the problem for about 1 1/2 hours, then the problem  would come back.I replaced the UTM with an old laptop and found the same issue as on the UTM.

Called Rogers support, they connected and did *something*. It's been up steady ever since.

Thanks for responding Bob and Barry.
  • FWIW, I've also solved a similar problem by leaving the modem off for a minute instead of just power-cycling.
