Slow Internet UTM 110/120

110/120 are worthless junk only good for use as a basic firewall (or a paper weight). If you add other features you'll experience a sharp drop in performance which is what your seeing.

I highly dislike and loath the 110/120 and sophos have left a bitter taste. We purchased a 120 with full guard for 20 users using adsl 2+ (22mbit sync) with just web protection a few ips rules and email protection. Any more than 5 users browsing and it would be a crawl 30 seconds to load google .... Turn off web protection and it was instant - but what's the point then.

We went back to sophos and after a lengthy support process and lots of user frustration we just bought a utm 220. It was night and day everything ran so much smoother. We had the utm 120 for less than a month (opened a support call within 7 days of owning it) and decided it wasn't fit for the purpose. 

Sophos wouldn't allow us to return it even though we were told be a sophos rep from sophos that it would meet our needs. Eventually they allowed us to return the hardware but because we had used the license we couldn't get a refund on that. So we would end up with a license with no hardware to use it with - great!  We just kept it and use it to collect dust... Occasionally we turn it on but realize is not worth our time.

The 220 was not perfect either as we had ram issues.... We decided to upgrade it with an extra 2gb of ram and now it's running like a well oiled machine!

There is some cheap full guard bundles out at the moment that comes with hardware included .... Maybe see if you can get one of these if they will allow you to return it.
