DynDNS is ending their free DNS service...

I personally switched to FreeDNS - Works like a charm. Because I own a toplevel .de Domain, I only had to change the UTM's CNAME entry and that's it. Nothing new to remember ;-)

I bought a couple of names from NameCheap last year; the DDClient in the UTM supports their dyndns service (free if you have domains from them).

I actually PAY for dyndns pro..it's 25/year and you get 30 slots.  I use this for my clients utm's and routers that i need to get access to.  Very inexpensive in my book.

I plan to use one of the supported ones that the UTM has listed.

So does anyone have tips for my potential dilemma?  [:D]

If you go with  the reasonably priced dyndns option there's no changing on anything..otherwise you will have to change the system's hostname to match the new dyndns name and also re-download all ssl packages for remote clients(if you aren't using html vpn exclusively)..otherwise nothing else will get changed.

If it is that easy, then I won't be concerned about it.  I had a concern that things would not be working correctly after changing the DNS hostname.  I know it would affect the SSL certificate packages and external connections.  I was more worried about having to redo the UTM just because of those changes.

nopers you wouldn't have to redo the utm..and you won't have to change your dns name is you sue the paid service..but if you use a free one then yes there's some changes afoot..[:)]

I think it is a extremely affordable price for their Seriously Good Reliable Service, I do not recall any known outages.

I think for this amount I can skip changing all the Fully Qualified Domain Name in the UTM Configuration and "resetting" the CERTS is well worth it.

I think the fact that I just went thru all the Heartbleed Cert Resets - I am not keen to redo again and redownload and reinstall all the VPN Clients.

I have 02 x WAN which I use for Fail Over and this DynDNS does Update it REAL FAST ( I am not expert in this as I simply leave it as default but past experience the fail over to the Secondary WAN IP for all the VPN clients simply is within minutes so to the users they simply try again and to them it works).

Took me 1 min to finish the upgrade on the website and that is it [:)]

FWIW, namecheap is ~$10 per domain registration/year , including dynamic DNS with unlimited subdomains.

Depending on how many domains you need, this may be cheaper, and is more flexible IMO.

that is a valid option..but dyndns has a well deserved reputation for reliability..i don't know about namecheap's services though...
